Whether you’re looking to add style to your home or better control the light coming in your windows, custom blinds can be the perfect solution. But before you start shopping, you need to make sure you have accurate measurements of your windows.

How to Measure Your Windows for Custom Blinds

We’ll guide you through the process of measuring for custom blinds, so you can get the best fit and the most beautiful result. If you still need assistance, we offer custom blind services.

  • Measure the Width in Three Spots. The first step measuring for custom blinds is to measure the width of the inside of the window frame in three locations — at the top, in the middle, and at the bottom. Record the smallest measurement.
  • Measure the Length of Each Window. Next, measure from the top of the window frame to the bottom, be sure to include molding or trim.
  • Determine the Mounting Method. Before you order your custom blinds, you should determine how you want to mount them. There are three mounting methods to choose from: inside mount, outside mount, and ceiling mount. Inside mounted blinds sit flush against the glass and are mounted on the inside of the window frame. For an outside mount, the blind mounts are on the outside of the window frame. For a ceiling mount, the blinds are hung from a ceiling mount above the window.
  • Consider Any Obstructions. Are there window cranks, handles, or locks that might affect the size of the blinds that you can order. If necessary, remove the obstructions before mounting the blinds.
